An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

As a material, Silicone offers very good compression set resistance across its range, physiological inertness and low toxicity. Expect good resistance to ozone and UV exposure, many oxidizing chemicals, and weathering. Service temperature is rated from -80°F (-62.2°C) through 450°F (232.2°C). It is not the right choice where steam above its rated range or concentrated acids are present.
