The S1X12 is a red Silicone 70 Shore A O-Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 12 mm (0.472 in), a cross section of 1 mm (0.039 in), and an outside diameter of 14 mm (0.55 in). This o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

It resists extreme heat and cold, dry heat, and many oxidizing chemicals. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Silicone delivers physiological inertness and low toxicity, excellent electrical insulating properties. The material carries a published service range of -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). Applications involving hydrocarbon fuels and oils or steam above its rated range call for a different compound.
