Part number TSP040 is an AS568-040 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 2.864 in (72.75 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.004 in (76.3 mm). A back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. It resists strong acids and bases, oxidizing media, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. It should not be specified for service in molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery.
