The TSP118 is an AS568-118 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 0.862 in (21.89 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.068 in (27.13 mm). This back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

The compound resists steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is known for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and excellent dielectric properties. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or service requiring elastic recovery will shorten service life.
