This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-149 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 2.8 in (71.12 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.006 in (76.35 mm), catalogued under part number TSP149. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

The compound resists oxidizing media, steam, and nearly all industrial chemicals. PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
