The TSP242 is an AS568-242 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 3.984 in (101.19 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 4.262 in (108.25 mm). This back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) offers non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Expect good resistance to solvents, oxidizing media, and nearly all industrial chemicals. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or elemental fluorine at temperature call for a different compound.
