This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-269 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 8.734 in (221.84 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.012 in (228.9 mm), catalogued under part number TSP269. It extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is specified for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. The compound resists solvents, oxidizing media, and steam. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery call for a different compound.
