This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-317 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D with an inside diameter of 0.912 in (23.16 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.332 in (33.83 mm), catalogued under part number TSP317. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

Expect good resistance to nearly all industrial chemicals, solvents, and oxidizing media. PTFE (Teflon) is known for near-universal chemical inertness and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery.

It sees regular use in chemical processing, semiconductor fabrication, and food and beverage.
