This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-453 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D with an inside diameter of 11.975 in (304.17 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 12.525 in (318.14 mm), catalogued under part number TSP453. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

The material holds up against oxidizing media, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. PTFE (Teflon) is known for near-universal chemical inertness and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Exposure to service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
