TSP454 is an AS568-454 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 12.475 in (316.87 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 13.025 in (330.84 mm). In service, this back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and excellent dielectric properties. This material stands up to steam, oxidizing media, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.

Typical settings include food and beverage, semiconductor fabrication, and aggressive-media pipelines.
