This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-455 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 12.975 in (329.57 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 13.525 in (343.54 mm), catalogued under part number TSP455. It bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and very wide continuous service temperature range. The material holds up against oxidizing media, steam, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C).

Typical settings include aggressive-media pipelines, pharmaceutical and biotech, and laboratory equipment.
