Ordered as TSP456, this is an AS568-456 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 13.475 in (342.27 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 14.025 in (356.24 mm). The back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and very wide continuous service temperature range. It resists strong acids and bases, solvents, and oxidizing media. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in elemental fluorine at temperature or service requiring elastic recovery.

It sees regular use in aggressive-media pipelines, semiconductor fabrication, and chemical processing.
