The TSP457 is an AS568-457 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 13.975 in (354.97 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 14.525 in (368.94 mm). This back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is valued for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. This material stands up to nearly all industrial chemicals, strong acids and bases, and solvents. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature are present.

Common environments for this compound include laboratory equipment, food and beverage, and aggressive-media pipelines.
