Ordered as TSP459, this is an AS568-459 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 14.975 in (380.37 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 15.525 in (394.34 mm). The back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is valued for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. The compound resists strong acids and bases, oxidizing media, and solvents. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in elemental fluorine at temperature or service requiring elastic recovery.
