This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-020 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 0.864 in (21.95 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.004 in (25.5 mm), catalogued under part number TST020. It bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and excellent dielectric properties. Expect good resistance to nearly all industrial chemicals, oxidizing media, and solvents. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. It is not the right choice where service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals are present.

Typical settings include chemical processing, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
