30 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-030 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 1.614 in (41 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.754 in (44.55 mm), catalogued under part number TST030SO. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for very wide continuous service temperature range and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. The compound resists solvents, strong acids and bases, and oxidizing media. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
