TST040SO is an AS568-040 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 2.864 in (72.75 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.004 in (76.3 mm). In service, this back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for very wide continuous service temperature range and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. This material stands up to oxidizing media, solvents, and strong acids and bases. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature are present.

Common environments for this compound include food and beverage, aggressive-media pipelines, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
