Ordered as TST044SO, this is an AS568-044 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 3.739 in (94.97 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.879 in (98.53 mm). The back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) offers excellent dielectric properties and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. The compound resists strong acids and bases, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals.
