142 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Part number TST142SO is an AS568-142 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 2.362 in (59.99 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.568 in (65.23 mm). A back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for near-universal chemical inertness and non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics. The material holds up against strong acids and bases, steam, and solvents. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C).

It sees regular use in aggressive-media pipelines, laboratory equipment, and chemical processing.
