The TST227 is an AS568-227 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 2.109 in (53.57 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.387 in (60.63 mm). This back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for near-universal chemical inertness and very wide continuous service temperature range. Expect good resistance to strong acids and bases, oxidizing media, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature are present.

Typical settings include aggressive-media pipelines, pharmaceutical and biotech, and chemical processing.
