460 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

APG stocks the TST460SO, an AS568-460 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 15.475 in (393.07 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 16.025 in (407.04 mm). A back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

The compound resists steam, strong acids and bases, and nearly all industrial chemicals. PTFE (Teflon) delivers non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
