It resists general atmospheric corrosion, many petroleum products, and weathering. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Aluminum is specified for a high strength-to-weight ratio that eases handling of large sizes and good corrosion resistance in general industrial service. It should not be specified for service in strong acids and alkalis or prolonged salt water immersion.
