Part number VQ4174 is an AS568-174 black Viton® (FKM) 75 Shore A quad profile Quad-Ring built to an inside diameter of 8.737 in (221.92 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.943 in (227.15 mm). A quad-ring resists spiral failure in reciprocating service thanks to its multi-lobe geometry.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) offers excellent resistance to compression set and permeation, the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit. The material holds up against chlorinated solvents, many acids, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Applications involving ketones and esters or hot water and steam call for a different compound.
